This is my submission for the 8-Bit Challenge. I wanted to keep the design simple, keeping it loyal to the retro 8-bit style. As such, the design is inspired by video game sprites, particularly the HP bar present in most old NES games, as well as the retro arcade-style title screen. At the same time, I wanted to bring the 8-bit style into terms with post-modern ideas, particularly using clothing as well as the body as a means of conveying consumer choice. The deviantART logo is symbolic of this notion, but the HP hearts on the sleeve are also representative of this idea, with regards to customer ratings, and the idea of the loss of intimacy due to technology.
Of course, while I do feel the hearts are a cliché (coupled with "wear your heart on your sleeve," a cliché in itself), for the message of this design, I felt it was a necessary risk to take, attempting to derive more meaning from something so overused.
